At the 2023 SCARS Conference, Daniel Vomhof III presented on RECON-3D, a Apple Device scanning app, Cloud Compare, a free software package used to work with Point Clouds, and Speed from Crush where he compared 4 different ways to calculate speed from crush based on 3 crash tests performed at SCARS in 2022.

What is different about the Recon-3D and Cloud Compare presentations is that they are specifically geared towards the Vehicle Accident Investigator, and the things they have to know in order to determine whether the software will work for them in their situation. As part of his presentation he showed several examples towards the question of accuracy as compared to measured data on a scene as opposed to the normal comparison against full blown, purpose designed, scanners.
