The Crash Testing in 2023 sought to maximize a “feature” in the crash testing grounds. And the Crash Tests are, at least to me, always “better” when you can frame a story around them, so …. here are the stories that ran through my mind –
Test 1 shows what things look like when some poor soul pulls off to the side of the road to check their map, their texts, figure out where they are going to get some food, etc . Its a hot day, so they pull off and get under the shade of a (Big FINE) Tree. Then along comes our School Bus …. the driver for whatever reason does not stay on the roadway …. and the Video shows the rest.
Test 4 is similar in that it shows what is expected when a driver “Straightens the curve” due to their speed, and there is an old (historic??) tree that is, for safety reasons, too close to the edge of the roadway.
The series of two tests (Test 2 and Test 3) was designed to illustrate and perhaps instruct us on how to separate the damage from the first impact from the second impact. Think of this series as
1 – School bus stops, either to let of some kids or because someone/something darted out into the roadway, with its rear end hanging out into the intersection.
2 – Along comes our “hero” HUA driver not paying attention to traffic in front of them, and …. BAM …. (This is Crash Test 2). Watch the movement of the Bus …. and think of what might be occurring inside the bus with unbelted passengers. Also, IF a kid was getting off (or on to) the bus, what they may have for injuries.
3 – Then along comes our second “hero”, either travelling too close, too fast and HUA, or both (This is Crash Test 3)
If you think this is the quality of Crash Testing you would like to see …. consider it the norm for the SCARS/Southeastern Collision Conference. Please keep us in mind as a possible future conference to attend. IF you are curious as to past conference speakers, please look at some of the more recent past conferences here.
If you look at some of the specific conference pages under the PAST CONFERENCES menu item, you can get an idea as to what the likely costs will be.
